Medical Malpractice Insurance covers many different types of occurrences including:
Adverse reactions to Anesthesia which happen in an operating room, during labor and delivery, cosmetic surgery clinics, pre-op and recovery rooms, dental offices, and out-patient clinics and doctor’s offices.
Tip: Make sure there has been proper specialty training and certification by the doctor administering the anesthesia. Ask for credentials and verify the person administering the anesthesia has experience regarding this procedure.
Birth injuries and death can occur at different stages of pregnancy and birth. Some birth injuries may not be diagnosed for years after birth. Some parents mistake their child’s injury for genetics, but many birth defects may be preventable.
Wrong diagnosis often resulting in serious injury or death often involving stroke, cancer, and heart attack which could be treated or prevented.
Prescription drug errors are becoming more common as the number of people taking multiple prescriptions increases. Doctors and pharmacists both have to double check the chemical effects of each drug they prescribe and the possible side effects when combined with other prescribed and over-the-counter drugs. Diet medication is one that may adversely interact with other prescription medication.
Emergency room errors occur when there is a misdiagnosis or procedures and standards of care are not followed. The doctor or other hospital employee may careless, was not trained or familiar with a procedure, did not have the proper skills, or just simply ignored hospital rules. The medical provider may also respond slowly to someone’s injury, or the hospital is understaffed or poorly equipped.
Clinical trials can be problematic for coverage, with some companies clearly not including coverage for such high risk ventures. Since the trial is on untested drugs, the cost and risks can be gynormous.
